11/17/2023 0 Comments Best to play games on geforce nowNVIDIA in recent years stepped into the Cloud Gaming market with NVIDIA GeForce Now, a premium subscription service that allows subscribers to take digital games they own from multiple storefronts like Steam and the Epic Games Store and stream them on multiple devices including laptops, Mac, TVs, Androids, iPhones, and iPads. Even games from Xbox PC Game Pass can be streamed through NVIDIA GeForce NOw. (Warning: not all games on those stores will be supported in GeForce Now – the full list of supported games can be found here.) It’s worth signing up for all these stores, even if you’ve not previously bought games from them, because they often give away free games that you can add to your library. One such company is NVIDIA, a huge tech corporation primarily known for producing graphics cards, handheld consoles, gaming accessories, and media players. Instead, you connect your Steam, Epic Games or Ubisoft accounts and play the games you’ve already acquired through those stores. Connect all the stores – Unlike Microsoft’s Game Pass, GeForce Now doesn’t include games in the price.Alas, the same can’t be said for the Google Stadia controller, which can be converted to a Bluetooth controller following the service’s closure, but didn’t offer vibration support in my tests. It even supports vibration feedback on my Xbox controller. GeForce Now should detect these automatically. You can connect Bluetooth-enabled Xbox and PlayStation controllers to your Mac, via the Mac’s Bluetooth settings menu. Get a good controller – Mouse and keyboard input is, of course, supported, but you might also want to make use of a games controller. If you’re not familiar with fiddling with in-game graphic settings and the effect they can have on performance, it’s probably safer to leave it on Nvidia’s recommended settings. I tend to find Nvidia’s automatic settings are a little modest, and you can eke out better quality graphics by taking control of these yourself. This, for example, allows you to change the viewing distance or the graphical quality in the game itself. Turn on in-game graphic settings – Also in the Settings menu you’ll find an option to save your changes to in-game graphic settings. On my 16in MacBook Pro, for instance, the display is 3,456 x 2x234 pixels and the refresh rate is capped at 60Hz, or 60 frames per second. If you’re not sure of these, Apple’s website will display the specs of your machine. Then choose the resolution of your particular screen and the maximum frame rate. Head across to Streaming Quality and select Custom. In the GeForce Now app for Mac, click the menu icon in the top-left of the screen and choose Settings. Tweak display settings – Nvidia’s app does a pretty decent job of automatically finding the best settings, but I found it best to take manual control. If your Mac doesn’t have an Ethernet port – and most modern MacBooks don’t – you can buy a cheap USB-C Ethernet adapter. It’s genuinely easy to forget you’re using a cloud service rather than playing locally. Connecting to the router via Ethernet cable offers a much smoother performance. Connect via Ethernet – It is possible to play over Wi-Fi and Nvidia pulls all kind of stunts to make Wi-Fi streaming as smooth as possible, but even using a high-end Wi-Fi 6 mesh router in the same room as my MacBook Pro, I experienced stutters, dropped frames and lag. If you want to get the smoothest experience from GeForce Now Ulitmate on your Mac, here are a few tips: The MacBook Pro becomes a great gaming machine Future Publishing via Getty Images
